Abstract

Among the productions filmed during the Argentinean democratic transition (1983-1989) Esperando la carroza is a unique case because of its success over time. Based on the questions generated by its public repercussion, the article examines the place of the family table in this film, assuming this object from a double perspective: 1) as a device that functions simultaneously as a leitmotiv, a dramatic form and a factor of agglutination of the public and the private; 2) understanding this as a key element that makes it possible to reconstruct a genealogy of theatrical and cinematographic representations that contribute a sense of their figuration on the screen. Through the textual analysis, the essay intends to give answers both problems, which will allow to place simultaneously this film within its epocal framework, also seeing its future derivations.
